Discovered in 1629 by
English Puritans and Jamaican woodcutters and finally conquered by the
Spanish at the end of the 17th century, the island of San Andrés
and
its many different races and cultures is a perfect vacation getaway. The official language is
Spanish although all of the
islanders speak "Caribbean English".
The archipelago of San Andres and Providence is
located
480 miles North-West of the
Colombian mainland in the Caribbean Sea. It
is made up of the islands of San Andres, Providence and St. Catherine:
Bolivar and Albuqueque islets; Cotton, Haynes, Johnny, Serrana,
Serranilla, Quitasueno, Rocky, and Crab cays and Alicia and Bajo Nuevo
sand banks.
Its architecture ranges from colorful

the native districts to modern buildings where the later settlers live.
