The Academy

The Academy is located in Coronado, just 10 kilometers northeast of the center of San José on the outskirts of the Braulio Carrillo nature reserve. Living in Coronado provides you with all the advantages of a clean natural area, and at the same time it gives you the opportunity to enjoy the cultural activities of the capital city.

Green Coronado is a lively rural city with an active community life. It is the seat of numerous respected institutions, such as the Interamerican Institute for Agriculture (IICA), the Center for Central American Social Studies (ICAES), the Costa Rican Olympic Committee, and the world-famous snake research center of the University of Costa Rica, the Instituto Clodomiro Picado. Here you can also find everything for your day-to-day needs: modern supermarkets, a sunday market, doctors, banks, traditional sodas, and even pizzerias and American-style restaurants. A large gothic cathedral towers over Coronado.

All of our guest families live near the school in Coronado. They are carefully chosen, and they embody the best traditional Latin American values – an ideal environment for learning Spanish and getting an authentic picture of life and culture in Middle America.

Classes at the beach !

The sister
Academy is located in the beautiful coastal town of Jacó Beach on the Central Pacific region of tropical Costa Rica. Jacó is just 1.5 hours away from the capital and it offers lots of sun, stunning beaches and eye-catching flora and fauna, nearby national parks, and lots of fun activities in a very popular town that has become the most popular coastal destination in Costa Rica.

Lodging can be done with host families or apartments. There are also lots of hotels and cabins in the area. Students can transfer to Jacó via public bus, private shuttle or taxi. Please contact us for more details.

We highly recommend the beach school, as it offers a glimpse of rural life in Costa Rica very different from that in the city. Due to the town's small size, students quickly come to know the local population and to feel at home in this warm and welcoming 'pueblo'. Apart from the beautiful beach itself, students may visit nearby Quepos and the Manuel Antonio Beach and National Park.

Cultural activities

The school offers a weekly cultural and leisure program, which guarantees 3 to 4 activities each week. These activities include an orientational tour of the city for newly arrived students on the first Monday, as well as a once-a-week cooking class or food tasting of traditional Costa Rican specialties, a dance class (salsa, cumbia, merengue – around 1,5 hours), or a trip to a salsa disco. There is also a tour each week, such as a trip to a coffee plantation and processing plant, a trip to the University of Costa Rica, a tour of the jade or gold museum in San José, or a trip to the market in San José.

Optional tours are available during the weekend: visit the magical Tortuguero Canals, Canopy, Canyoning, or visit Montezuma Beaches.... Lots to do and discover in Costa Rica!
