Internships

Can I choose my internship?
As we offer many internships all over Costa Rica, the chance we match your interest and your universities requirements is very likely. On your resume you must indicate your interest and the requirements for us to match this to the right company.

Do I need a work permit?
Yes,iIt is obligatory for every intern to apply for a work permit upon arrival, which can give you the permission to stay for up to 18 months in Costa Rica. The length of your work permit is equal to the length of your internship. CJC will inform you of the requirements and costs.

No, you will not be able to change companies. That is why we get you to "handpick" your placement before arrival. CJC will assist you in case of dispute setteling, miscomunications, etc.

Do I pay taxes while in working?
Yes, you will pay taxes, including - in some cases - social security. This is different from the US Social Security. In Costa Rica it means that you can use the public hospitals and health system.

If I'm unhappy, can I go home?
The majority of our students have an once-in-a-lifetime experience. However if you cannot adjust or are unhappy, of course you can return home. Remember that no fees at this point are refundable and all arrangements have to be made in coordinated with your company mentor.

Travel

Can I travel in Costa Rica?
Yes, traveling around the country is allowed and encouraged only during spare time and in coordination with your mentor during your internship period. CJC offers discounted weekend field trips and other travel arrangements specially for students.

Can friends and family come over?
Yes they can! They may not be able to stay with you in your residence, however we can assist you with other housing options and take care of travel arrangements and questions.
