The Curacao Museum is located in the
western part of Otrobanda in an historic building dating from 1853.
This
spacious museum, Curacao's largest, showcases works by traditional as
well as contemporary local and foreign artists. A permanent collection
of antique period furniture, including some exquisite mahogany pieces
from the 18th and 19th centuries, antique maps of Curacao and the
Caribbean, and Indian art are also on display. Special exhibitions are
organized regularly. The large shaded grounds are a pleasant place to
stroll; children love the real locomotive. Open Monday - Friday 9
am-midday & for 2 pm-5 pm, Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. |

Maritime Museum -
Curaçao's
newest museum celebrated its
grand opening in January 1998. It is located in a mansion built in 1729
on the Waaigat inlet, just above the Floating Market. Renovations have
done in maritime style complete with a gangplank, portholes and ship
railings, all in wood and brass. Video presentations and multimedia
displays are used throughout the museum to bring Curaçao's
maritime history to life. Exhibits include antique miniatures 17th
Century ship models and maps, some dating from the 1500's. Other
highlights include representations of Spanish rule, the conquest of
Curaçao by the Dutch and formation of the Dutch West India
Company, the evolution of Willemstad as a naval base and maritime
trading center, its explosive 20th century development - and a
projection of what is in store for the city in the new millennium. The
Museum has its own ferry for tours of the harbor. You can relax at the
museum's harborside café and browse in its souvenir shop. The
Maritime Museum is open every day except Monday from 10:00 am- 4:00 pm
and is wheelchair accessible. |

Jewish Cultural Historical Museum -
This museum is part of the Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue, the
oldest in continuous operation in the in the Western Hemisphere. The
synagogue, dedicated in 1732, is one of the most beautiful old
buildings
on the island. Its museum displays an impressive collection of
religious
artifacts from the congregation's history, such as Torah scrolls and
Hanukkah lamps, as well as antique personal and household items. The
Jewish Cultural Historical Museum is one of Curaçao's most
popular tourism attractions. Open Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 11:45 am,
2:30 pm - 4:45 pm. |

Curaçao Postal
Museum - This
picturesque museum features a complete collection of stam ps from the
Netherlands Antilles and
other countries, as well as related artifacts such as old post boxes
and
scales. It is located in Punda's oldest standing building, dating from
1693. The historic building was meticulously restored in the early
1990's. A special exhibit of theme stamps from around the world changes
four times a year. Admission hours are Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:00
pm, Saturday 10 am - 3:00 pm. |

Fort Museum - This museum is located
at the back of the historic Fort Church (1769) at Fort Amsterdam
(1635),
near the Punda waterfront. It contains a small but elegant collection
of
artifacts from the church's Dutch Protestant congregation, active since
1635, including antique silver chalices and a mahogany baptismal font.
History buffs will also enjoy the impressive collection of old maps of
the island. It was a former warehouses under the church and now a
elegant museum. Open Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm -

The museum Kurá
Hulanda is
situated right at he city-center harbor of Willemstad, in a place whereDutch
entrepreneurs once traded and transshipped African slaves along with
other 'commercial goods'. This museum impressively exhibits the
Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in its totality, from slave capture in
Africa
through the Middle Passage and relocation in the New World. Museum
Kurá Hulanda has the finest African collection of the Caribbean
area. The reconstructed earlier lifestyle and impressive pieces of
African art in the collection, bring you close to how it was in the

The Tele Museum is housed in a
beautifully renovated building in the heart of Willemstad's shopping
district. A permanent exhibit traces the history of Curaçao's
telecommunications, from the first telephone, introduced in the 1880s,
to late 20th century inventions such as fiber optic cables,
computerization and teleconferencing. The museum is owned and operated
by the island's telecommunications company, Setel N.V. Open from
Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm. Admission is free. |

Landhuis Brievengat is a plantation
house with interior museum. This plantation house is one of the oldest
plantation houses which is owned by the Dutch marines as a recreation
centre. On the first Sunday of each month there is an open house which
starts with a church service. A tour of the property is given and there
is local music as well as a folkloric show. At the shop one can buy
souvenirs, books, handicrafts and postcards. Landhuis Brievengat is
